School Dress up Day = Stressed Parent Day!
I don’t know how I manage to do it but every time the boys have a dress up day at school, I seem to miss the letter telling us about it! So it is usually from other lovely, more organised mums posting it on our school facebook site that I learn about it, giving me all of a few days to come up with something the boys won’t be too embarrassed to wear!
The first time my first two sons had dress up day at pre-school I lovingly made them both a homemade super hero cape and mask. Five years later lets just say the novelty has well worn off!
Roald Dahl dress up day just makes me cringe at thought of what costume the boys might ask me to come up with. Earlier this year I sent in three little Charlie Buckets in normal clothes with a golden ticket and a chocolate bar wrapped up in paper saying WONKA BAR. Geniously simple albeit a bit of a cheat! God help me next year if they decide to be an umpa lumpa or the BFG!
A few weeks ago my son told me at 8pm that the next morning he needed to be wearing a WWII evacuee costume for his school play. My efforts to recycle a Victorian cap and waist coat were rescued by another ‘experienced’ mum lending me a perfect grey cap and tank top. One day maybe I will be that experienced, organised mum – I would like to think that by the time child four is at school I would have cracked it!
And so two days ago I learnt that this Friday I need to send three little super heros into school. Children in Need is a fabulous cause so I am 100% behind supporting this but why oh why couldn’t they have suggested another pyjamas to school day? How much easier would my morning be not having to nag everyone to get dressed whilst I struggle to iron three shirts and find three sets of matching socks? Plus, I was so looking forward to rocking up to school in my onesie this year and having a pyjama day………….
Oh well, I guess I will just have to settle for walking the boys to school in my wonder woman outfit this year instead 😉
